Two layers of orthopedic foam are so thick and supportive that even the largest dogs will not 'bottom out'. The unique dual thermostats maintain an even surface temperature 12 to 15 degrees above the ambient air temperature to a cozy 102 degrees when in use. The heater is removable for washing. Comment: Your paying for mostly foam padding.The heating element has no thermostat, and its to small for the ex lg bed.Would not recomend for any dog bigger than a chiwawa.I think the advertisements need to be more descriptive

Comment: my friend that i bought this heated mattress for says that the feral cats are slowly learning it is there and it is warm, and thank you, because we needed one big enough for 4 cats.
