I was looking for a dog pet bed with good side bolsters as well as a thick bottom mat, and this bed was the best one I've run into so far. Usually the pet beds always seemed like they were filled with the least amount of filler as possible - usually not even thick enough to keep my pet's head from hitting the ground. I have two dogs, a 40lbs Shiba and a 80lbs Malamute - both dogs are able to sleep on this bed and have their weight supported by both the mat and bolsters. Also with the way the mat is configured the bolsters do not move out of place or "spread eagle" like other pet beds I've had in the past. The bolsters stay firmly in the U-shape around the mat.

I bought a large for my 3 y/o 65# GSD. It is big enough for her to stretch out on and she likes to use the bolsters as a pillow. The quality seems fine. The top layer of foam is egg crate foam and I'm not sure how well it would work for a larger arthritic dog - but it works fine for my needs.
My husband was skeptical of an orthopedic dog bed, since "dogs sleep on the floor, they don't need orthopedic beds." But now he is glad I bought it. When we get home and the dog comes running out of the bedroom, the only warm spot in the room is on the dog bed, not our bed!
